COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A 38-year-old man, Caleb Kirkland, was arrested Tuesday evening after leading Colorado Springs police on a chase in connection with a stolen truck and attempting to flee on foot with a firearm.

Earlier in the day, officers located a suspected stolen green Chevrolet Silverado near Austin Bluffs Parkway and North Academy Boulevard. Inside the vehicle, police discovered a Glock 9mm handgun in the glove compartment.

A marked patrol unit attempted to stop the truck, but the driver fled. Later, detectives located the vehicle again in the 3400 block of North Academy Boulevard, this time occupied by Kirkland and a 22-year-old woman.

When officers approached, both individuals exited the truck and began walking away. Kirkland fled on foot. During the pursuit, police say he pulled a gun from his pocket. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon, and Kirkland reportedly threw the gun but continued running.

After being tased, Kirkland still resisted arrest and fought with officers before ultimately being taken into custody. He was treated at a medical facility before being transported to the Criminal Justice Center.

Kirkland faces multiple charges, including:

Motor vehicle theft

Vehicular eluding

Theft of a firearm

Unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon

Obstruction
