PORT GIBSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A 15-year-old boy is facing adult charges after a shooting that left a 15-year-old girl injured in Port Gibson on Wednesday evening.
The Port Gibson Police Department responded to the incident on Marginal Street, where they found the girl suffering from a gunshot wound. She was treated for her injuries as officers launched an investigation.
Authorities identified Byron January, 15, as the suspected shooter. He was arrested and has been charged with aggravated assault as an adult. January was arraigned and is being held on a $50,000 bond, set by Judge Mareesha Odom.

Jamarion Mallett, 18 – Discharging a firearm within city limits
Police Chief Russell Dorsey stressed the seriousness of the situation, warning against retaliation or further violence.
“We take incidents like this very seriously… If there are any plans of retaliation or further violence, I want to make it clear that every individual involved will be held accountable,” said Dorsey.
The investigation is ongoing as police continue efforts to ensure community safety.
