In a shocking case of cross-border identity fraud, Burhan Uddin and Faizur Rahman, both residents of Patharkandi, have been arrested for attempting to secure an Indian passport for a Bangladeshi national using forged documents belonging to a deceased person.
The case came to light during a routine verification linked to a passport application filed under the name Farooq Ahmed. Discrepancies in the supporting documents – including an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and birth certificate – prompted police to launch a deeper probe. Officials soon discovered that Farooq Ahmed had died some time ago, and his identity was being misused.
According to the police, the accused had forged identity documents to present the Bangladeshi applicant as an Indian citizen. A raid at their residence led to the seizure of forged documents and a computer believed to have been used in the creation of the fakes.
Both men were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court, and further investigations are now underway to determine the extent of the racket, including possible involvement of government employees or officials.
Speaking on the development, the Additional Superintendent of Police said that the authorities are investigating if more foreign nationals may have illegally obtained Indian documentation using similar methods.
The case raises serious concerns over national security, document verification, and cross-border infiltration, highlighting the need for stronger checks and inter-agency coordination.
