Two burglars have been jailed for their involvement in a violent aggravated burglary in which a man was slashed with a machete while two children slept upstairs. The attack occurred on the morning of October 16, 2023, in Oxton, Wirral, when the burglars, Awad Mohammad, 22, and Ibrahim Azaryoon, 27, forced their way into a family home in an attempt to steal a safe.
The victim confronted the burglars and was slashed across the arm and wrist during the altercation. Fortunately, the children in the home were unharmed. Mohammad, of Nickleby Close in Toxteth, and Azaryoon, of Nelson Street in Ellesmere Port, were each sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on December 19, 2024. Mohammad received a 10-year sentence, while Azaryoon was jailed for 12 years for their role in the violent burglary.
Detective Sergeant Alan Williams from Merseyside Police’s Operation Castle burglary team expressed relief following the sentencing. He emphasized the terrifying nature of the crime and praised the investigation leading to their conviction.
In a separate case, Carl Power, 22, and Anthony Milton, 20, were sentenced for a series of vehicle thefts across Merseyside. Between October and December 2023, the pair committed burglaries targeting vehicles in Sefton, St Helens, and Liverpool. Power was sentenced to three years and eight months, while Milton was jailed for four years. The court also considered 29 additional offences when sentencing the pair.
The successful investigation into these linked burglaries underscores Merseyside Police’s commitment to tackling crime in the region.
