NEW ORLEANS, LA – The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has arrested Broderick Butler, a 25-year-old Black male, in connection with the attempted second-degree murder of a man in the Sixth District on March 5, 2025.

At approximately 2:00 a.m. on that date, NOPD officers responded to a report of an aggravated battery by shooting in the 1000 block of St. Andrew Street, where they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that the shooting was the result of a violent exchange between two rival groups from Baton Rouge, who had exited a nearby nightclub and engaged in a shootout. Through a collaborative investigation with Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD), detectives identified Butler as the perpetrator.

Following the investigation, NOPD detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Butler for attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. BRPD detectives also obtained a search warrant for Butler’s residence and vehicle. On March 13, 2025, BRPD’s Special Response Team, Special Investigations, Crime Scene Unit, and NOPD detectives executed the search warrant and arrested Butler without incident.

During the search, authorities recovered a stolen 9mm Glock 19 handgun with an extended magazine, a large sum of cash, drugs, and other items relevant to the case. In addition to the attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon charges, Butler has also been booked on charges of illegal possession of a stolen firearm, possession of Schedule II drugs, and being a fugitive from the NOPD arrest warrant.

Butler was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the additional charges and remains in custody.
