BROCKTON, Massachusetts — A Brockton college student, Anthony Lopes, has been named a person of interest in a shooting incident that left a teenage girl seriously injured in Easton on January 14, 2025. Lopes, 18, was arraigned on illegal firearms charges at Brockton District Court on Wednesday, where prosecutors linked him to the shooting near the Avalon Apartments in Easton.

The shooting occurred around 2:30 p.m. on January 14, when Easton Police responded to a 911 call about a teenage female suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, who sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, was quickly flown to the hospital for treatment.

Though Lopes was not directly charged in connection to the shooting at the time of his arraignment, he remains a person of interest in the ongoing investigation. The authorities are continuing to gather evidence to determine his involvement in the crime.

In a separate legal matter, Lopes is facing charges related to illegal firearms possession, which will be addressed in court as part of the investigation. Further updates are expected as law enforcement continues to probe the Easton shooting.

The Easton Police Department is urging anyone with additional information about the shooting to come forward as the investigation unfolds.
