ST. LOUIS — A 36-year-old woman is in custody after fatally shooting a man in downtown St. Louis and stealing his truck, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 2:25 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 1, in the 900 block of North 9th Street, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Police reported that the victim had picked up Brittany A. Rivoire to keep her from being out in the cold. A friend of the victim, who was also in the truck, exited the vehicle after expressing concern about Rivoire’s behavior. At some point, Rivoire reportedly produced a handgun and shot the victim in the head. The victim’s name has not been released.

Rivoire briefly drove the victim’s truck but abandoned it after a few blocks. She then walked to a nearby fast-food restaurant, where a bystander gave her a ride. Police stopped that vehicle and took Rivoire into custody, recovering a handgun in the process. Surveillance footage captured the shooting, police said.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Rivoire with first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, armed criminal action, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle. She remains jailed without bond. Court records do not yet indicate when her next appearance will be.

Rivoire has a previous 2024 conviction for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
