British Fugitive Ewan Corbett Arrested in Türkiye After Two Years on the Run

Wanted for fatal UK crash, Corbett faces possible extradition

by Amelia Crawford

Ewan Aaron Corbett, 26, a British fugitive wanted in connection with a fatal 2020 crash in North Yorkshire, has been arrested in Türkiye after evading capture for more than two years.

Corbett had been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, driving without a license, and driving without insurance following a May 2020 crash near Rosedale Abbey that killed 21-year-old Shane Finn, a father from Middlesbrough. He failed to appear in court in 2022 and fled the UK before his trial.

International Manhunt and Social Media Taunts
Authorities launched a global search for Corbett, leading to:

A bench warrant issued by North Yorkshire Police

An Interpol red notice and EU arrest warrant

Reports of him traveling under a false identity across Southeast Asia and Europe, bribing officials to cross borders

Despite being on the run, Corbett taunted authorities on social media, posting pictures from locations including Switzerland, Thailand, Vietnam, Portugal, and Malaysia. In one image from Penang Island, Malaysia, he posed shirtless on a boat with the caption:

“Before I disappear off the face of the earth.”

Another post featured him holding a toy gun with the caption:

“Body like Baywatch, face like Crimewatch.”

Capture in Türkiye and Possible Extradition
Turkish authorities detained Corbett four weeks ago while he attempted to cross into Iran. The UK Foreign Office has confirmed ongoing communication with Turkish officials regarding his case.

According to a source, Corbett is being held in harsh conditions, sharing a cell with 16 others, sleeping on the floor, and surviving on bread and water. Despite this, the source claimed, “he remains on top of the world, as always.”

If extradited, Corbett will face trial at York Crown Court for both:

The 2020 fatal crash

A separate dangerous driving charge from November 2021

For now, he remains in Turkish custody, awaiting a decision on his extradition.
