Bridget and Joey Davis Arrested for COVID Relief Fraud in Mississippi

Marshall County couple faces charges for defrauding government funds.

OXFORD, Miss. – Bridget and Joey Davis, residents of Marshall County, were arrested on Monday after being charged with defrauding the government of funds intended for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi made the announcement on Tuesday.

Court documents reveal that the couple faces charges of wire fraud for their involvement in submitting fraudulent applications for Payroll Protection Program (PPP) loans. They are also charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and engaging in wire transfers involving proceeds from their fraudulent scheme.

If convicted, Bridget and Joey Davis could face a maximum sentence of 30 years for the conspiracy and wire fraud charges, along with up to 20 years for the money laundering charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The fraudulent scheme was initially uncovered during a civil investigation. The case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi, with the Department of Homeland Security handling the investigation.
