GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Georgetown Police Department (GPD) issued a public safety alert early Wednesday morning following an overnight shooting near Amerson Orchard Apartments by Lemons Mill Road.

Just after midnight on October 8, police confirmed a shooting investigation was underway. While the victim sustained life-threatening injuries, authorities assured the public there was no ongoing threat.

“Although there is no current danger to the community, please avoid the area and comply with officer instructions,” officials advised.

By 9 a.m., officers informed FOX 56 News that 22-year-old Brian Alexander Newman had been arrested in connection with the incident.

Court documents reveal Newman had invited his brother and a friend to his home, where his wife was also present. The three men were dancing together when, according to the arrest citation, Newman drew a gun and began pointing it at others before allegedly accidentally shooting his brother in the face.

Hospital staff reported the victim suffered a severe spinal cord injury from the gunshot wound. At the time of Newman’s arrest, the full extent of his brother’s injuries was still unknown.

Newman is currently held at the Scott County Detention Center and faces a charge of first-degree domestic violence assault. He is scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 9.
