CARBONDALE/MT. VERNON — Carbondale Police arrested 43-year-old Brian K. Adams on Sunday in Mt. Vernon while investigating an unrelated crime. Adams was wanted on a warrant for a July 8 residential burglary and vehicle theft in the 500 block of Deer Trail.

Adams and 40-year-old Gerald D. Stroud of Vergennes were suspects in the case, which involved breaking into a home and stealing a vehicle around 11:25 p.m. on July 8.

Stroud was arrested on July 9 in the 700 block of East Main Street in Carbondale and lodged in Jackson County Jail. An arrest warrant for Adams was later issued by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Adams was believed to be in the O’Fallon, Illinois area before his arrest in Mt. Vernon. Police have recovered the stolen vehicle and some of the victim’s property. Adams is currently held at Jefferson County Jail pending transfer back to Jackson County.
