Brian Hyatt Arrested for DWI Amid Medicaid Fraud Case

Former Arkansas psychiatrist faces new charges of intoxicated driving

by Sophia Bennett

ARKANSAS, USA — Brian Hyatt, the former psychiatrist accused of Medicaid fraud, was arrested again on July 3, this time on charges including driving while intoxicated (DWI), possession of an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, according to Benton County jail records.

This latest arrest follows prosecutors’ requests for stricter release conditions in his ongoing Medicaid fraud case, citing Hyatt’s prior incidents of alleged intoxication in public. Prosecutors argue that Hyatt’s behavior could pose a danger to himself and others.

In a recent court filing, the state requested that Hyatt be barred from consuming alcohol, required to install an ignition interlock device on his primary vehicle, and prohibited from driving any other vehicles to circumvent the device.

The judge is expected to rule on these proposed conditions on July 11.

Hyatt, the former director of the Northwest Medical Behavioral unit and ex-member of the Arkansas State Medical Board, faces accusations of Medicaid fraud dating back to 2023. Authorities allege he was barely present at the unit and had little to no contact with patients during that time. His case is one of over 150 related lawsuits currently ongoing.

Records show Hyatt was released the same day as his July 3 arrest.
