Brian Damron, a 62-year-old Southaven man, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison with the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) after pleading guilty to charges of attempted murder and sexual battery. The sentencing occurred earlier this week, following his guilty plea earlier this month. Upon completion of his prison term, Damron will face 10 years of post-release supervision (PRS) and must register as a sex offender for life.
District Attorney Matthew Barton praised the victim’s bravery and resilience throughout the process. “We are deeply thankful for the victim’s strength in coming forward and the resolve she continues to show as a survivor. Her testimony during the sentencing was a most magnificent display of courage. I honor her and am thankful this evil and vile man will no longer live among us,” Barton said.
Barton also commented on the severity of the sentence, especially given Damron’s age. “For a man of his age and health, this sentence almost certainly means he will die in a Mississippi prison,” he said. In addition, Barton noted that Kentucky authorities are expected to impose additional years due to Damron’s violation of his parole for previous crimes committed there.
The case was investigated by the Southaven Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Steven Jubera, who is from Oxford.
