WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. — Robert Anthony Gonzalez, a Brevard County man, has been arrested and charged with several felonies after police say he forcibly entered a hotel room armed with a machete, assaulted a woman, and stole cash.

The incident took place just before 4 a.m. on July 13 at the Extended Stay America Premier Suites on Coastal Lane. The female victim, who had been dating Gonzalez for a month, heard a knock at her door but did not invite him inside. Gonzalez allegedly forced entry by shoulder-checking the door and then confronted the victims while wielding a machete.

According to the arrest affidavit, Gonzalez took approximately $400 from the woman’s purse. Police arrested him following their investigation, and on August 7, 2025, prosecutors filed charges including first-degree armed burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and felony petit theft.
