EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) — A 33-year-old woman has been arrested following a patrol investigation at a local hotel where deputies discovered a stolen vehicle and evidence of identity theft.
On Tuesday, deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office conducted a routine check at the Econo Lodge on the 6000 block of Panamint Court, near Highway 24 and Peterson Boulevard. During their inspection, they identified a black Chevrolet Silverado with a fake license plate. Upon running the plate, deputies confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in March.
Inside the vehicle, authorities located mail, checks, and documents addressed to Brandy Cheek, as well as blank checks and others made out to various individuals and businesses.
Deputies coordinated with hotel staff and located Brandy Cheek in a room on-site. She was found in possession of the stolen vehicle’s keys and .57 grams of methamphetamine, according to officials.
Cheek was arrested and charged with:
Forgery
Identity theft
Second-degree motor vehicle theft
Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
An existing felony warrant for identity theft
She was booked into the El Paso County Jail, but authorities confirmed on Thursday that she has since been released on bond.
