Mississippi Couple Arrested for Unemployment Fraud While Husband Was Incarcerated

Mississippi State Auditor Shad White announced the arrest of Brandon Williams and his ex-wife, Miranda Trulove, for their involvement in a conspiracy to defraud the state by illegally claiming unemployment benefits. Williams, who was incarcerated at the time, allegedly orchestrated the scheme from prison by making numerous calls to Trulove, requesting her assistance in applying for unemployment benefits through the Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES).

Williams reportedly received the benefits via a Way2Go debit card, which was then used by Trulove on several occasions. Both Williams and Trulove face conspiracy charges, with each potentially facing up to five years in prison and $1,000 in fines if convicted.

Auditor Shad White emphasized the state’s ongoing efforts to uncover and address fraud, highlighting how technology and investigative techniques have helped the state recover significant sums in recent years.

All individuals involved are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
