Brandon Dean Smith Indicted in Meth Case

Task Force Arrest Leads to Additional Charges

by Sophia Bennett

A Buena Vista man is facing multiple drug charges following a joint investigation by local and regional law enforcement agencies.

Officers with the Buena Vista Police Department and members of the James River Regional Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop in September 2025 involving 39-year-old Brandon Dean Smith. During the stop, a K9 unit alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. A search of the vehicle uncovered approximately one-quarter ounce of methamphetamine.

On January 28, 2026, a grand jury indicted Smith on one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense. The following day, authorities located Smith in Buena Vista. During his arrest, officials say they found an additional quarter ounce of methamphetamine in his possession. He was served with the original indictment and also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Smith is currently being held without bond at the Rockbridge Regional Jail as the case proceeds through the court system.
