CHEYENNE, Wyo. — An Evanston man, Brady Joseph Ehlers, 35, was sentenced to 14 years in federal prison after being caught with more than 700 fentanyl pills in a Cheyenne hotel last fall, the U.S. Justice Department announced Wednesday.
Ehlers was arrested alongside Ashley Haberman, 40, who remains in federal custody, according to court documents.
Last fall, multiple tip-offs to the Cheyenne Police Department’s Community Action Team indicated that Ehlers and Haberman were selling fentanyl. On October 16, detectives tracked Ehlers during a supply run to Colorado. Surveillance showed him briefly meeting individuals at locations including Freddy’s Frozen Custard in Thornton and a Walgreens parking lot in Denver.
The suspects then returned to Cheyenne, where officers found 22 grams of fentanyl on Ehlers’ lap inside his GMC Acadia and another 35 grams in the vehicle. A search of room #312 at the La Quinta hotel uncovered an additional 18 grams of fentanyl across four packages.
In total, the task force seized approximately 75.55 grams of fentanyl, which federal investigators estimate equates to over 700 fentanyl pills—far exceeding typical user quantities.
The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Cheyenne Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mackenzie Morrison. U.S. District Judge Alan B. Johnson handed down the sentence on April 15, 2025, in Cheyenne.
