Bradenton, FL – A Bradenton businessman, Jeremy DeMers, was arrested following a year-long investigation into the misappropriation of construction funds. DeMers, 45, faces serious felony charges, including misappropriating construction funds exceeding $100,000 and scheming to defraud over $50,000.
DeMers owned Gulf View Windows and Doors (GVWD) after taking control from his brother, Jordan, who was diagnosed with cancer and passed away in April 2024. After the ownership transfer in 2023, both Buky Construction and Easton Construction filed complaints alleging GVWD failed to fulfill their orders. This led to liens being placed on their properties.
The companies had paid DeMers $792,383 for products sourced from E.S. Construction. However, instead of paying the manufacturer, DeMers allegedly funneled the funds into various business and personal accounts, according to police reports.
Further investigation revealed that DeMers transferred money from GVWD accounts to his personal accounts or a payroll company account, where funds were withdrawn for personal expenses. He also misused a $1 million life insurance policy payout in a similar fashion. The funds were reportedly used for gambling, travel, and cryptocurrency investments.
Authorities uncovered that DeMers spent $19,554 on airline tickets and at least $200,000 on gambling. Additionally, he made several ATM withdrawals at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and charged expensive meals, spa treatments, and gift shop purchases to the company accounts.
DeMers eventually turned himself in to the authorities. He now faces charges of first-degree felonies for the misappropriation of funds and scheming to defraud.
