A traffic stop in Prentiss County led to the arrest of Booneville resident James Lewis on multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Deputies Jimmy Jarman and Ethan Hester noticed a vehicle moving in reverse on US 45, prompting the stop. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Lewis, was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), driving with a suspended license, and other minor offenses.
Upon conducting an inventory of the vehicle, deputies detected the smell of marijuana. A search revealed a felony amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle. North Mississippi Narcotics Agent Grady Smith was contacted, and a hold was placed on Lewis for further investigation.
It was also noted that Lewis was on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections at the time of his arrest. He now faces charges for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
Prentiss County Justice Court Judge Ray Hall set Lewis’ bond at $150,000. The case will be presented to the next grand jury.
