Bondamunda police have made further arrests in connection with a jewelry heist that took place at a railway quarter in October. Three more suspects have been taken into custody, including a receiver of stolen goods. The arrests come two weeks after four gang members were initially detained.
The latest arrests involve Akash Ray (26), Tafazul Khan (28), and Suraj Bansi (25). Khan is suspected of being the receiver of the stolen jewelry. All three were detained for their roles in the October 19 robbery at the residence of Dillip Kumar Panda (44), a junior railway engineer, located in Diesel Colony.
According to SP Nitesh Wadhwani, the theft involved five unidentified miscreants who broke into Panda’s home by cutting through a window grill. The perpetrators then tied up the victims and made off with gold and silver ornaments weighing between 380 and 400 grams, Rs 10,000 in cash, and several important documents.
The investigation, which involved forensic teams and dog squads, led to the arrest of four gang members on December 31. The police recovered 120 grams of gold, 40 grams of silver, and Rs 70,000 in cash during the operation. The authorities are continuing to investigate and pursue the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
