The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended Samuel Kariuki Ngaanga, the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) Director for Bomet County, for soliciting and accepting a bribe of Ksh.25,000.
Ngaanga allegedly demanded the bribe to allow a complainant to operate a lodging facility in Mulot without the required Effluent Discharge License and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
EACC received a report of the bribery allegations earlier this week and quickly launched an operation to catch the official in the act in Bomet town.
Following his arrest, Ngaanga was taken to Bomet Police Station for questioning and statement recording. He was charged with soliciting and receiving a bribe before being released on Ksh.30,000 cash bail. The inquiry into the case is ongoing, the commission said.
