The Bolangir district police have arrested a domestic help accused of stealing gold ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh and Rs 40,000 in cash from the residence of Nasima Tamsum in Ashrampada, Kantabanji town.
The accused, Madhuri Podh, a resident of Tengara village under Muribahal police limits, had been working at Nasima’s house for several months. The theft, reported just before the Nuakhai festival, involved 230 grams of gold and cash, with Madhuri immediately suspected.
During interrogation, police recovered multiple stolen gold items from Madhuri’s residence, including two necklaces, one chain, and two bangles. Investigations revealed that she had exchanged the stolen gold at various jewelry shops, whose owners have been summoned for questioning.
Station Officer Rashmita Behera confirmed that a case under IPC Section 312 has been registered. Madhuri was presented in court, and her bail plea was rejected, leading to her remand in judicial custody.
