Boca Raton Man Among 324 Charged in Largest U.S. Healthcare Fraud Bust
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Richard Weldon Crowder II, 59, is facing federal charges in what officials are calling the biggest healthcare fraud crackdown in U.S. history. Crowder is one of 324 individuals charged nationwide in a sweeping Department of Justice (DOJ) enforcement action targeting schemes that defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and other programs of more than $14.6 billion.
According to the DOJ indictment, Crowder secretly owned and operated three medical supply companies — New Day Health Solutions, Liberty Medical Supply, and RNK Medical Supply Inc. — which he used to bill Medicare for medically unnecessary durable medical equipment (DME). Prosecutors allege Crowder enlisted telemedicine doctors to sign off on DME prescriptions without properly evaluating patients.
From June to September 2022, Crowder’s companies received approximately $381,703 in fraudulent Medicare reimbursements. Authorities further state that Crowder concealed his ownership by naming another individual as the official owner of the businesses.
The investigation is part of a larger nationwide effort to combat healthcare fraud that threatens taxpayer-funded programs and public health.
