Boau Frederick, a man from Watford City, is facing multiple charges after allegedly breaking into a Fargo business complex and falling asleep inside one of the offices.
The incident occurred at a building on 4575 23rd Avenue South, which houses several businesses. Police were called on the morning of September 3 after an employee found Frederick sleeping in an office. According to court documents, he admitted to entering the building by manipulating the lockbox outside to access the key.
While he initially claimed to have remained in the lobby, surveillance footage contradicted his statement, showing him moving through various rooms. One business representative noted a forced door, disturbed items, and a shoelace tied to a back door hinge. A damaged key fob reader and lockbox were also discovered.
Frederick had consumed a soda taken from an office and spilled it in the workspace. Damage to the property led to his charges being upgraded from criminal trespass to burglary and criminal mischief.
Frederick admitted to using methamphetamine and claimed he wasn’t in his right mind. He also stated he had a place to stay and was trying to return to a hotel where his mother was staying.
Frederick is charged with burglary and criminal mischief and is set to be arraigned on September 5.
