In a shocking turn of events, Parth Makwana, the 21-year-old son of a BJP leader from Rajkot, was arrested for drug peddling along with his associate, Sahil alias Nawab Sodha. The duo was apprehended by the Rajkot Special Operations Group (SOG) after they were found in possession of drugs worth Rs10 lakh.
The police action was based on a tip-off received by Rajkot SOG Constable Ghanshyamsinh Chauhan, which led to a raid at flat number 19 in Bhaktidham Society, located on the 150 Feet Ring Road. Under the leadership of Police Inspector (PI) J M Kaila, the team discovered 98.54 grams of mephedrone, a popular synthetic drug, hidden under a table.
Both Makwana and Sodha were arrested at the scene. Makwana, a BCA graduate, and his accomplice Sodha, a Class 9 dropout, had allegedly been dealing drugs for the past five months. The two men are reportedly gym enthusiasts and bodybuilders, with a client base primarily consisting of young gym-goers and college students.
During questioning, the accused revealed that they had been sourcing the drugs from Mumbai, bringing them in through a private bus service. The police were able to arrest them just hours after they had received their latest consignment.
Authorities seized a variety of items from the raid, including MD drugs worth Rs9.85 lakh, two mobile phones, two weighing scales, and 107 vacuum-sealed plastic bags of different sizes used for packaging the drugs. The total value of the recovered items, including spoons and boxes, amounted to Rs10.05 lakh.
Further investigation uncovered that Makwana’s father, Devkubhai Makwana, is a retired teacher and currently serves as the SC Morcha minister for the BJP in Jasdan taluka. The revelation has raised questions about the involvement of political figures in such criminal activities.
The police have initiated further efforts to identify the clients and suppliers involved in this drug network, particularly those in Mumbai. Authorities are looking to unravel the wider scope of the operation and prevent further drug trafficking in the region.
