Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu: In a shocking incident near Pattukkottai, a 37-year-old BJP functionary was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly murdering a man over a long-standing financial dispute.
The accused, M Rajeshkumar from Mettuvayal, had reportedly lent Rs15 lakh to Sakthivel (38) of Naduvikkottai village two years ago. As Sakthivel failed to repay the amount, tensions had been simmering between the two.
On Sunday, Rajeshkumar visited Sakthivel’s home to confront him, but found only his younger brother, Pragatheeswaran (29), who had recently returned from abroad. A heated argument ensued when Rajeshkumar insisted on repayment and accused Sakthivel of cheating and fleeing the village.
According to police reports, the confrontation escalated, and Rajeshkumar allegedly attacked Pragatheeswaran with a machete. The victim tried to flee but was chased down and fatally hacked.
Following the murder, Rajeshkumar surrendered at Vattathikottai police station. Authorities recovered the body and sent it for autopsy at Pattukkottai Government Hospital. A case has been registered, and Rajeshkumar has been remanded to judicial custody.
Police continue their investigation into the case, including the financial dispute and the circumstances leading to the fatal attack.
