In a major crackdown, Dillip Kumar Nayak, a prominent leader of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), was arrested by the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch for allegedly defrauding a realtor of Rs 12.42 crore in Cuttack, Odisha.

The case involves multiple land transactions and unfulfilled promises spanning several years. According to investigations, Nayak received an initial payment of Rs 3 crore from the complainant, Bijay Rout, between 2015 and 2017. Subsequently, additional large sums were paid over time under assurances of handing over plots in prime locations.

Nayak, who was also preparing to contest the Nimapara Assembly seat against the sitting Deputy Chief Minister, allegedly failed to deliver the promised land, leading to the financial dispute.

Key documents including sale deeds and agreements were seized by the police, providing strong evidence of Nayak’s involvement in the scam. Despite repaying a partial amount of Rs 1 crore, the case highlights a serious breach of trust affecting both Rout and his family.

The EOW continues its probe, seeking to recover the defrauded money and bring all responsible parties to justice.
