In a major trading fraud, two brothers were arrested by the Kuwadva police for allegedly cheating 146 commission agents at the Bedi Market Yard of Rs17 crore. The accused, Bipin Dholariya (55) and Nitesh Dholariya (47), owners of J K Trading, face charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The arrests came after a complaint was lodged on May 10 by Mansukh Patel, owner of Omkar Trading, who was among the victims. According to Patel, J K Trading procured cumin and other agricultural goods from several agents and paid with cheques that later bounced due to insufficient funds.
From April 5 onward, Omkar Trading alone sold goods worth Rs1.18 crore to J K Trading. In total, agents across the yard sold cumin worth Rs17.2 crore. After issuing dud cheques, the Dholariya brothers allegedly shut their office and went missing.
Atul Kamani, director of the market yard and president of the commission agents’ association, confirmed the scale of the fraud, stating that 146 agents were affected. He noted that the scam has triggered severe liquidity issues, stalling business operations at the market. Kamani added that trading activity may remain suspended unless authorities ensure recovery of the funds.
