WASHINGTON, Jan. 16, 2026 — Billy Dean Gregory, 55, is behind bars following a month-long manhunt after a high-speed chase and multiple vehicle thefts in southern Washington. Gregory was booked into Clark County Jail on Friday, Jan. 16, according to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Gregory faces charges of third-degree theft and making a false statement to a public servant. He is also being held on outstanding warrants for 13 additional counts, including theft, forgery, theft of a motor vehicle, and attempting to elude law enforcement. Local charges have been referred to the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office.
The case began on Dec. 29 when Gregory allegedly stole a vehicle and led police on a high-speed pursuit along Interstate 5 in Josephine and Jackson Counties. Spike strips were deployed in Jackson County, but the pursuit was later terminated due to public safety concerns.
Following the chase, Gregory allegedly stole two more vehicles in Ashland and Talent, Washington, and abandoned them in nearby areas. He was also reported to have stolen alcohol from a local liquor store during the spree.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and Gregory remains in custody while facing the multiple felony charges.
