In a major cybercrime breakthrough, Indian police arrested Bikash Kumar Ray, 29, for his alleged involvement in a phishing scam that targeted Amazon customers in the United Kingdom. The arrest took place on Thursday evening during a raid on a flat in Shukhobrishti, under the Technocity police station limits.
Ray was apprehended from a 13th-floor apartment and is believed to be a close associate of cybercriminals previously arrested in similar cases.
“He is a close associate of some members of a gang that was arrested earlier,” confirmed a senior officer.
According to investigators, Ray and an accomplice—identified only through a web domain, dh991.dynamichostonline.com—posed as Amazon executives. They contacted UK customers, obtained their login details, and used remote access software to gain control of their devices. Once in, they accessed Amazon Pay accounts and redirected funds to their own wallets. Forged documents featuring Amazon’s logo were also used to deceive victims.
Police recovered critical digital evidence, including:
A laptop with Amazon login data and victim communications
WhatsApp chats detailing payments to fake call centers and commission splits
Banking information of accounts used to siphon money
From the raid, officers seized nine mobile phones, a router, and digital records confirming cross-border victim interaction.
Two separate cases have been filed under provisions of the IT Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023. Authorities believe more arrests may follow as the investigation expands.
