The police have cracked the case of the July 14 murder of dairy operator Avnish Yadav in the Bidhnu area. The 25-year-old’s body was found on a cot near his cattle shed, about 100 meters from his home. He was killed with a sharp weapon while asleep.
Initially, suspicion fell on neighbors and cousins Shivam and Saurabh due to prior disputes. Avnish’s elder brother, Manish, reported the tensions and suspected the cousins. However, lack of immediate evidence led the police to register the case against an unknown individual.
Investigators reviewed CCTV footage from nearby village streets but found no significant leads. They then conducted benzidine tests on suspects, revealing bloodstains on Shivam’s fingernails and lower clothing.
During interrogation, Shivam admitted to a confrontation with Avnish near a local shop three days before the murder. He had threatened Avnish’s life during this altercation. Police also uncovered that two years ago, a fight over water collection at a hand pump had escalated into violence between the families.
Shivam was arrested and taken into custody on Monday. The investigating officer, Station Officer Jitendra Pratap Singh, noted that Shivam’s inconsistent statements regarding the murder weapon require further investigation and custody for recovery.
