Bicholim Police successfully arrested two interstate suspects, Gulam Shiraz and Asadullah Afzal Ali Khan, who were impersonating police officers to target elderly women for thefts.
On January 7, 2026, during routine patrols near Assnora junction, police observed two suspicious men on a Honda Shine motorcycle stopping elderly women under suspicious circumstances. PSI S. Kamat and Police Constable Dayesh Khandeparkar tracked the suspects, who initially tried to flee but were eventually caught.
Authorities recovered fake police ID cards, face masks, glass bangles wrapped in paper, and a two-wheeler with tampered engine and chassis numbers, believed to be stolen.
The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Gulam Shiraz of Moraj, Maharashtra, and 35-year-old Asadullah Afzal Ali Khan of Bidar, Karnataka, confessed to a theft on December 20, 2025, in which they deceived Smt. Madhavi Naik of Bicholim by replacing her gold mangalsutra with stones.
Police are investigating connections to other crimes in Goa and across India. Both suspects remain in custody as PSI Kamat continues the inquiry under supervision from PI Vijay Rane Sardesai, SDPO Shridevi B. V., IPS, and SP (North Goa) Harishchandra V. Madkaikar.
