in a major crackdown on the illegal transportation of gold and cash, Bichhiwada police in Dungarpur district seized 1.478 kg of gold jewellery worth Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 22,49,817 in cash. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the case, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the seized valuables.

The arrests were made during a late-night check post operation near Ratanpur Chowki on Thursday. Bichhiwada SHO Kailash Soni reported that during a routine inspection, police officers noticed three suspicious individuals disembarking from a private bus traveling from Udaipur to Ahmedabad. The suspects were seen walking on the wrong side of the road, heading towards Udaipur while carrying backpacks.

Upon questioning, the individuals identified themselves as Chandulal Sen, son of Jaisaji Sen, resident of Gol, Sirohi district; Tejaram Devasi, son of Babaji Devasi, resident of Morli, Sirohi district; and Ashok Meghwal, son of Hobaram Meghwal, resident of Bagsing, Sirohi district. They could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the contents of their bags when further questioned.

During the search, police discovered Rs 22,49,817 in cash and 1.478 kg of gold jewellery in their possession. When asked to present valid documents or GST bills for the gold and cash, the suspects were unable to provide any. As a result, the police seized the valuables and arrested the three individuals.

The investigation is underway to determine the origins of the gold and cash, and whether the transportation was connected to any illegal trade or money laundering activities. Authorities are particularly focused on uncovering any links to smuggling operations along the Gujarat-Rajasthan border, a region known for frequent smuggling attempts.

This operation highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement in tackling illegal activities, and authorities have assured the public that further action will be taken based on the outcomes of the ongoing investigation.
