Ganjam police and the excise department on Monday seized a four-wheeler carrying 50 kg of ganja near Buduli village under Bhanjanagar police station limits and arrested two individuals linked to the smuggling operation.
The accused have been identified as Bibhuti Nayak of Tikabali and Dushmant Kahar of Phiringia in Kandhamal district. The seized ganja, packed in two large sacks, is estimated to be worth Rs5 lakh. Authorities said the consignment was being transported from Kandhamal to Bhubaneswar.
Excise Department Sub-Inspector Aliva Majhi said the vehicle attempted to divert its route upon spotting the enforcement team. Officers chased and intercepted the car, and upon inspection, discovered the cannabis hidden inside.
Both accused were taken into custody and produced in court. Officials noted that the duo was travelling toward Aska when the interception occurred.
The seizure reflects ongoing law enforcement efforts to curb drug trafficking in Odisha. Investigations are underway to trace the broader smuggling network and identify additional individuals involved in the illegal trade.
