In a tragic road accident on the Patiala-Samana highway, Bhupinder Singh, the driver of a tipper truck, has been arrested after his vehicle rammed into a Toyota Innova, killing six people — including five schoolchildren and their driver.
Police have also booked the truck’s owners, Randhir Singh and Davinder Singh, under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The owners are yet to be arrested.
Authorities revealed that the truck was being operated without a valid fitness certificate, insurance, or pollution certificate, and the road tax had not been paid. These violations point to gross negligence and possible liability on the part of the owners.
The Toyota Innova, used for daily school commutes, was struck head-on by the tipper truck. The crash killed all six occupants on board instantly, leaving the local community in shock.
The police continue their investigation and have stated that arrests of the truck owners are imminent.
