Bhubaneswar Police Bust Katrisarai Cyber Fraud Gang

In a swift and coordinated operation, the Bhubaneswar–Cuttack Commissionerate Police dismantled a well-organised interstate cyber fraud network known as the “Katrisarai Gang of Bihar,” arresting 15 of its members and seizing electronic devices, fake SIM cards, and a luxury vehicle.

Acting on credible intelligence on January 10, 2026, police raided a house located at Plot No. 2171/16 on Tankapani Road in Badagada and arrested 12 gang members from the premises. The house belonged to Debasish Tripathy, identified as one of the key masterminds behind the operation. The accused were produced before a court and remanded on January 11.

Further interrogation led to the arrest of three more members later the same day — Chandan Kumar (40), Pankaj Kumar (38), and Rishi Kumar (27), all residents of Katrisarai in Nalanda district of Bihar.

Police identified Debasish Tripathy, Bitu alias Arjun, Bijaya, and Pankaj as the primary orchestrators of the cyber fraud racket. Investigations revealed that Pankaj procured customer databases from e-commerce platforms such as Naaptol and Meesho through intermediaries based in Bihar. He also arranged mule bank accounts to route the defrauded money.

The gang allegedly used fake, pre-activated SIM cards obtained using forged documents to make fraudulent calls and operate social media accounts, enabling them to carry out large-scale cyber fraud across multiple states. Further investigation into the network’s operations and financial trail is ongoing.
