Bhubaneswar police have apprehended Manoj Kumar Singh, a man posing as a motivational speaker, for allegedly stealing valuables from a locked house in the city.
Singh, a resident of Cuttack, operated an online channel where he delivered motivational talks, urging people to avoid criminal behavior. Ironically, police discovered that Singh himself was involved in burglaries and other criminal activities.
The arrest followed a complaint from a resident of Bharatpur area. On August 14, Singh reportedly broke into a house in Khandagiri Bari locality, stealing approximately 300 grams of gold jewelry and Rs 5 lakh in cash.
Known as a habitual daytime burglar, Singh targeted locked homes. On the day of the crime, he used his two-wheeler to reach the location carrying an iron rod hidden in a bag. After breaking the main door and the almirah, he completed the theft within ten minutes.
Investigations revealed Singh mortgaged 82 grams of the stolen gold at UNI Gold branch in Nayagarh, securing Rs 4,73,000. The remaining 100 grams of gold and the cash were recovered from him.
Commissioner of Police Suresh Dev Datta Singh condemned the accused’s actions, highlighting the deceit in his public sermons versus his criminal acts.
