The Bhopal Cyber Crime Branch arrested two individuals involved in a sophisticated online job scam that lured victims with promises of easy profits for completing simple online tasks. The arrests took place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Sridungargarh, Rajasthan.
The accused have been identified as Kanakbhai Ahmadabadi, 32, from Chamanpura, Ahmedabad, and Hansraj Godara, 22, from Upni, Sridungargarh. Authorities also seized a mobile phone and SIM card connected to the fraudulent activities.
According to Additional DCP Shailendra Singh Chouhan, the suspects operated Telegram channels advertising “work-from-home” job opportunities. Victims were enticed to book flight tickets and give five-star online ratings, with initial small deposits made on fake websites. The scammers showed fake profits credited to the victims’ accounts to build trust. However, when victims tried withdrawing larger sums, they were told their “score” was insufficient and pressured to deposit more money. Ultimately, significant amounts were siphoned off into fraudulently rented bank accounts.
Further investigation revealed that the accused were also renting their bank accounts to other cybercriminals.
The probe began after a complaint by Pooja Dwivedi of Prakriti Garden, Bawadia Kala, who was duped into depositing Rs 5.95 lakh into fake accounts after being promised substantial returns for simple online tasks. Attempts to withdraw the money failed, and communication with the accused was cut off.
The Bhopal Cyber Crime Branch continues its investigation into the scam and related cases.
