In a significant breakthrough, the Kolar police in Bhopal arrested three members of an interstate burglary gang on Thursday, seizing stolen valuables worth Rs 1.5 crore. The accused, Yashwant Raghuvanshi (30) from Vidisha, Bhupendra Sahu (29) from Raisen, and Abhilash Vishwakarma (33) from Vidisha, were involved in multiple thefts targeting unoccupied homes.
According to Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra, the gang conducted detailed reconnaissance before calling accomplices from other states to carry out the burglaries. The arrested accused sheltered their outstation associates in local hotels and residences to facilitate their operations.
After stealing gold jewellery, the gang deposited it at the Muthoot Finance branch in Mandideep to obtain gold loans, subsequently investing the money in online trading platforms.
The police recovered gold and silver ornaments valued at Rs 22 lakh, Rs 24,000 in cash, and two vehicles—a Hyundai Aura and a Swift Dzire. Additionally, gold worth Rs 40 lakh held at Muthoot Finance and bank transaction records totaling Rs 60 lakh were seized.
The crackdown followed an investigation into a burglary on the night of May 13-14 at Danish Kunj colony, Kolar. Kolar Police Station in-charge Sanjay Soni revealed that CCTV footage and technical surveillance helped identify the suspects and freeze their bank accounts.
Further investigations are ongoing to uncover other gang members and related crimes.
