Bhopal police have arrested Mohit Singh Baghel, an Agniveer Jawan, and his friend Akash Rai in connection with a Rs 50 lakh jewellery robbery at SS Jewellers in the Bagsewania Police Station area on August 13. The robbery, carried out at gunpoint and knifepoint, involved the two youths, one of whom was on leave from the Rajput Regiment of the Indian Army. Police have arrested a total of seven people in the case.

The robbery occurred on the evening of August 13 when Manoj Chauhan, the jeweller, was alone at his shop around 8:45 pm. Two youths, wearing helmets and masks, entered the shop, threatened Chauhan with a gun and knife, and looted Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 in cash and jewellery. After the crime, they fled the scene on a motorcycle.

The Bhopal Police had launched an extensive investigation into the robbery. Police Commissioner Hari Narayan Chari Mishra had offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for information about the suspects. After reviewing over 400 CCTV footage from around the area, the police traced the motorcycle route and identified the accused. The police also had to seek army cooperation to track down Mohit Singh and his accomplice.

During the investigation, the police learned that the robbery was planned to pay off a debt owed by Akash Rai’s sister and her husband. Both youths executed the robbery, with Agniveer Jawan Mohit Singh specifically being on leave at the time. The police have recovered the gun used in the crime but have yet to recover the looted jewellery and cash.

This high-profile case highlights the ongoing efforts of the police in combating such crimes, with extensive efforts in CCTV analysis, army collaboration, and fieldwork leading to the swift arrest of the suspects.
