Bhopal Murder Case Wife, Tenant, and Boyfriend Arrested for Killing

Police uncover chilling details behind George Kurian’s death

by Ananya Mehta

In a chilling development, Bhopal Police have arrested Bitti Kurian, the wife of George Kurian, along with their tenant, Rekha Suryavanshi, and Rekha’s boyfriend, Sanjay Pathak, in connection with the murder of George, a retired BHEL officer.

The case, initially thought to be an accident, took a dark turn when the post-mortem revealed that George Kurian had died of asphyxiation, not from an accidental fall as his wife had initially claimed. Bitti Kurian had told police that her husband had slipped and injured his head in the bathroom, but the post-mortem report contradicted her version, exposing the lie.

According to police, Bitti allegedly conspired with Rekha and Sanjay to kill George in retaliation for years of abuse and his interference in Rekha’s relationship with Sanjay. The trio hatched a plan to murder George, with Bitti reportedly paying ₹10 lakh for the hit. A portion of the money, Rs2.5 lakh, was paid to Sanjay Pathak in advance, while the rest was promised after the murder.

On April 18, George was found dead, and Bitti rushed him to a private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. During the investigation, police found discrepancies in the statements made by Bitti and Rekha. For over 20 days, Bitti maintained her story of an accidental fall until the post-mortem report revealed that George had died from asphyxiation, prompting the police to reclassify the case as murder.

A special investigation team was formed, and after analyzing call records, CCTV footage, and other technical evidence, the police arrested the trio. They uncovered that George had been a controlling figure, preventing Rekha from seeing her boyfriend, and allegedly attempted to strangle his wife twice. This fueled Rekha and Bitti’s motive to kill him.

According to police, on the night of the murder, Bitti sedated George by putting eye drops into his eyes, rendering him unconscious. Once George was incapacitated, Sanjay entered the room and strangled him to death. During the struggle, George sustained a head injury, but he died from asphyxiation. Afterward, the trio cleaned the scene, using a pillow and bedsheet to remove any blood stains.

In a bizarre twist, Bitti told the police that George had once claimed that an astrologer predicted he would come back to life five hours after death. The trio, adhering to this belief, kept George’s body at home for several hours before finally taking him to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

The investigation further revealed that about a month before the murder, Sanjay had attempted to kill George in Sehore district but had failed.

This gruesome case has left many in shock, as police continue to investigate the full extent of the conspiracy and search for any additional information that might implicate other parties.
