In a swift operation, the crime branch anti-extortion squad arrested two 19-year-old youths for a daring burglary in Chintamani Nagar, Bhiwasankhori, under the Gittikhadan police station limits.
The burglary took place on November 5 between 8:45 pm and 10:20 pm, when the complainant, Mohammad Shoaib Rafiq Sheikh (47), was away attending a program in Jaitala. The intruders forced open the kitchen and bedroom doors, ransacked an iron cupboard, and fled with Rs 15 lakh in cash and gold-silver ornaments worth Rs 21.66 lakh, totaling Rs 36.66 lakh.
Police registered a case under BNS Sections 305(A) and 331(4). Parallel technical probes and tip-offs led to the arrest of Rohit Baheria Verma and Krishna alias Sahil Jaiswal, who confessed to planning and executing the burglary.
Authorities recovered Rs 9.33 lakh in cash, ornaments, and a mobile phone, valuing Rs 14.23 lakh. Investigations are ongoing to trace the remaining stolen property and any possible accomplices.
