In a swift crackdown on narcotics smuggling, Malwani Police on June 9 arrested Bhimsen Anand Biswal (49) for allegedly transporting ganja (cannabis) from Odisha to Mumbai for illegal sale.

Acting on a tip-off, PSI Dr. Deepak Hinde received intelligence that a man carrying narcotics was expected near Kamal Talao on Marve Road, Malad (West). After informing ACP Neeta Padvi and Senior PI Shailendra Nagarkar, a team laid a trap in the area.

The suspect was intercepted and searched, leading to the seizure of 4.466 kg of ganja valued at Rs44,660. A panchnama was conducted at the scene.

Biswal, a resident of Jagannath Mandir Galli, Hinjilicut Taluka, Ganjam District, Odisha, was taken into custody and booked under sections 8(c) and 20(b) of the NDPS Act, 1985.

Authorities are investigating further to determine if he is part of a larger trafficking network.
