Bhilwara Police Arrest ‘Bachhada’ Gang for Temple Theft

Seven, including six women, caught stealing jewellery at Rangotsav

The Kotdi Police in Bhilwara district arrested seven members of the notorious ‘Bachhada’ gang, including six women from Madhya Pradesh, for allegedly stealing gold jewellery from women during the Rangotsav celebration at the Mewar Charbhuja temple on the Sheetla Saptami festival.

Police said that during a medical examination, an X-ray revealed a stolen mangalsutra concealed in the private parts of one of the accused. Female doctors at the district hospital successfully extracted the ornament, which was seized along with other recovered gold items. Kotdi SHO Mahaveer Prasad Meena noted that such a case is unprecedented in the district.

The complaint was filed by Radha Aheer, who reported that on March 11, women walking behind her cut and stole her gold mangalsutra and six small gold beads.

A special police team, led by Shahpura ASP Rajesh Arya and SHO Meena, scanned CCTV footage around the temple and increased night patrolling. They intercepted a suspicious car carrying six women and a male driver. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the theft.

A case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, and further investigations are underway.
