In a major investigative breakthrough, the Chikkadpally Police solved a staged burglary case by arresting the complainant himself.
The accused, Bhaskar Pramod Mula (32), an unemployed BTech graduate, had lodged a complaint on February 9, claiming unidentified intruders had broken into his penthouse at Alekya Estate and stolen a gold chain, six bangles, two rings, and silverware, all valued at Rs 12 lakh. A burglary case was filed by the police.
Investigation Findings
During the probe, police noticed inconsistencies in Pramod’s statements. Scrutiny of his bank loan and credit card records revealed significant spending in Bengaluru months earlier.
Investigators found that since 2024, Pramod had secretly pledged his grandmother’s jewellery for Rs 4.6 lakh with banks and private financiers. When family members discussed using the jewellery for his elder brother’s wedding, Pramod allegedly panicked and staged the burglary.
Modus Operandi
Pramod hid some jewellery in another apartment block.
He dumped empty jewel boxes in the Musi Nala near his residence.
He then alerted family members and called the police to report the “theft.”
Outcome
The Chikkadpally police arrested Pramod, recovered the stolen family jewellery worth Rs 12 lakh, and are pursuing further investigation. Officials emphasized that staging crimes or filing false complaints is punishable under law.
