Bharuch police arrested 33-year-old Vivek Dubey, son-in-law of the slain teacher couple Jitendrasinh (56) and Lata Boradhara (53), on Sunday. The couple was brutally murdered in their Valia home on Tuesday night, with the police learning about the crime only on Wednesday night.
Dubey confessed to killing the Boradharas with a sharp-edged weapon, motivated by a heavy debt of Rs35 lakh incurred from losses in the share market. The accused reportedly planned the murder to gain financially from his in-laws.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ajay Meena of Jhagadia stated, “After interrogation and observing Dubey’s body language, we strongly suspected him. He eventually broke down and confessed.” The police recovered Rs43,000 in cash and jewelry from Dubey, and investigations continue to locate the murder weapon and other valuables.
On the night of the crime, Dubey arrived in Valia, stayed about 80 minutes, entered the Boradhara residence at 10:30 PM, and left by 11 PM. The couple’s elder daughter raised the alarm after her parents didn’t respond to her calls, prompting the police to break into the home and discover the bodies.
Dubey married the Boradharas’ elder daughter eight years ago after meeting her at Vankal College, where he was a teacher and she was a student. The couple initially had a strained relationship with the in-laws, which softened only after the birth of their son, now three years old.
Professionally, Dubey holds an MSc and BEd and works as a biology teacher in Surat district. The Boradharas were both educators, teaching at primary schools in Valia taluka.
Following the discovery, Valia police, along with LCB, SOG teams, and the dog squad, launched an extensive manhunt that led to Dubey’s arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
