In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Inter-State Cell of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has dismantled a major cannabis supply network. Authorities have arrested five key operatives, including the primary source, Bhari Mal Nayak, and seized 313 kg of ganja (cannabis) in the process.
The probe began with the interception of 288 kg of ganja hidden inside a modified truck. The two carriers, Mukesh and Rajesh, were arrested, leading police to deeper connections within the network.
Further investigation traced the origin of the contraband to Gajapati district in Odisha, where Bhari Mal Nayak, believed to be the main supplier, was arrested on June 29. His arrest led to more breakthroughs, including the capture of transporter Yashvir Dahiya (alias Satbir) in Haridwar and receiver Sunil Nagar (alias Gullu) in Greater Noida.
A subsequent search of Nagar’s residence led to the recovery of 25 kg of ganja in neatly packed bundles.
Police revealed that the ganja was being transported from Odisha to Delhi NCR through a supply chain that spanned Odisha, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The cannabis was being distributed using specially modified vehicles to conceal the drugs during transit.
This bust adds to the Delhi Police’s intensified efforts against drug cartels. Recently, under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Pakhwada’ campaign, over 1,629 kg of narcotics worth Rs3,274 crore were destroyed. Just last month, another 348 kg was seized from a gang smuggling drugs from Andhra Pradesh to Delhi.
Police are now expanding the investigation to track down additional accomplices and unravel the full extent of the network.
