Bhandup Murder: Shankarprasad Yadav Hacked to Death

Dispute over MTNL cables, contracts, and gang links

by Ananya Mehta

Bhandup police have registered a case and arrested six individuals in connection with the brutal murder of 35-year-old Shankarprasad Brahmadev Yadav, also known as Kalli, who was hacked to death in Tulshet Pada, Bhandup West, on January 25.

Kalli sustained 29 stab wounds, and police investigations indicate that his murder is linked to disputes over MTNL cable theft, construction and scrap contracts at the Bhandup pumping station, and his close ties with notorious criminal Shahzada Malik, alias Sajju.

The accused include:

Tasavvar Ali Anwar Ali Qureshi (Lala)

Arman Malik Sheikh (Aru)

Javed (Jabba)

Pramod Kisan Warangane (Pamya)

Akhtar Qureshi (Chhotu)

Anwar (Photu)

Taufiq Qureshi (Taka)

Six of them have been arrested so far. The case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, the Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act.

According to the FIR, Kalli lived with his family at Jahid Khan Chawl, New Prakash Nagar, Sonapur, Bhandup West, and had prior criminal associations. He had worked with a local gang leader from Kokan Nagar and later became close to Sajju Malik, a controversial figure with alleged criminal links and political ambitions.

Tensions arose after Kalli allegedly supported Sajju during municipal elections and became involved in disputes over construction contracts and scrap work, as well as MTNL cable theft conflicts with a local gang.

A fight involving Kalli’s friends and associates of Ali Qureshi reportedly took place on January 22, escalating hostilities. On the day of the murder, Kalli had sponsored a local cricket team, Krisha 11, named after his daughter, for the Sonapur Premier Cricket League (SPCL) 2026.

Later that evening, while at Tulshet Pada with his friend Saurabh Ahire, he was attacked by unidentified assailants. He was rushed to Navkar Hospital, then Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police continue to investigate the full network of the accused and their criminal connections in the area.
