A 33-year-old bhajan singer, identified as Shiv, and his 30-year-old lover Rekha were arrested on Thursday in connection with the alleged murder of his 24-year-old pregnant wife, Shobha Devi. The murder occurred on April 13 in Dodhiyana village, Ajmer.
According to police, Shiv and Rekha had been in a relationship for several years, having met during a bhajan programme at a temple five years ago. Shiv reportedly wanted to marry Rekha, which may have led to the tragic incident.
Authorities were alerted to Shobha Devi’s suspicious death on April 14. Upon inspection, police discovered bruising around her neck, suggesting possible strangulation. The body was sent for post-mortem to confirm the cause of death. The following day, Shobha’s father, Amardas, filed a formal complaint accusing his son-in-law of murder.
Ajmer Superintendent of Police (SP) Vandita Rana stated, “There was initial suspicion surrounding the case. As a result, we formed multiple teams to gather evidence and further investigate.”
The investigation is still ongoing as authorities seek to uncover more details about the motive and circumstances surrounding the crime.
